Introducing “Charlie”
Introducing "Charlie", a captivating miniature inspired by Willie Cole's monumental public art installation at Kansas City International Airport titled, 'ORNITHOLOGY'. This magical creation flying high above the City Market area of Terminal B, embodies the spirit of bebop jazz, and pays homage to KC's favorite son, saxophonist Charlie "Bird" Parker.©
With the support of Mike 'Horn Doctor' Corrigan, founder of B.A.C. Musical Instruments, these 'Jazzbirds', came to life as 'Visual Jazz' in the Boone Theatre located in Kansas City's Historic Jazz District.
Geographically central within the United States, Kansas City has historically served as the crossroads of American culture. Willie Cole, a master of turning the ordinary into art, crafted this installation to pay tribute not only to Parker but to the city's innovative spirit.
